Botany
Welcome to Botany. Botany is a project-based elective life science class. This is presently the only active Botany class offered in the Anchorage School District.
You must have passed Biology I to take this class. To thrive, you must also like plants and be an independent worker. The classroom is attached to the Service greenhouse, a lit, heated room that allows us to grow plants all school year. Yup, we can even harvest a few watermelons in December. This class is offered in the Fall semester and is followed by Marine Biology, another hands-on, project based class, during the same period in the Spring. |

Here is the link to the on-line class scheduleThe schedule is written on the south wall of the classroom on Monday at the beginning of the week. It covers material and due dates for the next seven days. However, this class involves growing actual plants. Living things don't always follow a perfect academic schedule, as many students can probably sympathize. Please be willing to be flexible and do what is needed to keep plants growing.

We do seed experiments with Planting Science, and the program is all kinds of awesome. Groups of 3 to 4 students choose their own variable, perform their own experiments on seeds of their choice, and interact frequently with a mentor/practicing scientist.
